Johns is an excellent support text for social work students
An excellent text book for students on both the BA and MA in Social Work in terms of providing an easy to use reference book.
This is a well-presented book and readable book, as are all those in the SAGE Learning Matters series. However the scope is clearly England, not Scotland or Northern Ireland - and perhaps Wales. The Introduction makes this clear, which is helpful. However the references at the end of Chapter 1 (which the Introduction indicates as providing guidance for other parts of the UK) does not include anything specific to the Celtic Fringe, nor does it indicate parts of those books and websites which may be applicable. Ciaran White's book is an obvious citation for NI law for social work. It is not possible to recommend a book based on English law for NI social work students; the messages have to be 'translated' by the lecturer and related to local statutes.
May be a little too basic for some of some of our second year undergraduate students - but others will welcome it as a good overview and introduction to the law.
