This interesting book provides those involved in curriculum development, enactment and evaluation with a useful overview and checklist of important themes that can support their work. These themes are informed by the author’s involvement in a range of curriculum development experiences in the UK and elsewhere. Emphasis is placed on the broader goals of education, with a clear warning on the invidious impact of educational reforms that focus narrowly on attainment standards.
This provided a clear overview of the considerations that need to be taken into account when developing appropriate and relevant curricula to support teaching and learning.

This book enables practitioners, scholars and academics to understand how to re-design or to suggest changes to curriculum structure, shape and content. Grounded in theory and philosophy, the book also offers practical help in grasping this controversial area.
the book is really very good for this kind of courses. Some of the ideas are implemented and for the time being it seems they are producing good results.
The publisher’s promotional description of this book caught my eye: as a person tasked with developing new curricula in the field of distance-mode tertiary theological education, I assumed that it would offer me the conceptual and practical tools I need.

This is an essential text for curriculum development.
This book is easily one of the best resources and suits the needs of my students perfectly when studying 'Curriculum Frameworks'. It challenges the student to think and question but also provides sufficient background to the development of the curriculum. The evolution of the curriculum is both well referenced and coherent. This is in my opinion an essential read within my course and I particularly like the simple chapter summaries and size of font ;this is readable even when you are tired!

At this point last year I was considering creating a new level 5 module for education students specifically on curriculum theory and design. This has no longer happened, but it is still a very useful supplementary text for a number of existing modules.
This is a useful book which provides practical planning templates and provokes discussion for those involved in curriculum development and the assessment of teaching and learning. The case studies incorporate a range themes and curricula including early years and national curriculum.
This book provides an interesting scrutiny of the development of the curriculum in the UK. With reference to case specific studies in science and early years education Boyle & Charles give the reader helpful, practical insights into how the curriculum has evolved into what we see today. Having undertaken detailed empirical work in the field, Boyle & Charles share a wealth of knowledge of curriculum design and evaluation. This will be useful text for B.Ed, PGCE, M.Ed, and EdD.
A clear guide to curriculum development and the factors that affect it.
This book is a combination of academic research (specifically discussion on curriculum development, its history and political context) and practical guidance on planning curricular schemes. While it claims to be aimed at in-service and pre-service teachers, I would argue that its more realistic readership would be Masters level students and above, as well as those working in schools with responsibility for developing curricula. It contains a broad range of up to date references and an excellent glossary of technical educational terms at the end.
