Blood and Plasma is a peer-reviewed, gold open-access journal dedicated to advancing the science and clinical understanding of blood and plasma in human health and disease through an interdisciplinary lens. Our mission is to explore their central role in health, diseases, and therapeutics—fostering research that connects molecular biology, clinical practice, pathology, and public health.

Blood & Plasma is a peer-reviewed, gold open-access journal dedicated to advancing the science and clinical understanding of blood and plasma in human health and disease through an interdisciplinary lens. Our mission is to explore their central role in health, diseases, and therapeutics—fostering research that connects molecular biology, clinical practice, pathology, and public health.

We welcome contributions that reflect the diverse and evolving landscape of blood and plasma research. Submissions may include preclinical, retrospective, prospective, observational, or clinical trial studies, as well as technically sound experimental and computational research, provided they demonstrate scientific rigor and appropriate validation. Blood & Plasma only considers in silico studies if they include robust external validation using an independent cohort or biological validation (in vitro or in vivo) and demonstrate potential clinical relevance.

The journal is especially interested in work that:

  • Explores core biological properties of blood and plasma, including fluid dynamics, protein composition, cellular interactions, and their roles in maintaining homeostasis and responding to physiological stress.
  • Recognizes blood as a dynamic system—not just a diagnostic medium, but a central player in immunity, inflammation, infection, and systemic disease.
  • Examines molecular and cellular mechanisms, including RNA biology, iron metabolism, and immune modulation.
  • Uses advanced histological and imaging methods to study blood, plasma, bone marrow, and lymphatic tissues at the structural and pathological level.
  • Investigates hematologic manifestations of viral infections, blood-based diagnostics, and immune responses to emerging pathogens.
  • Investigates hematologic disorders, such as anemia, hemoglobinopathies, coagulopathies, thrombocytopenia, leukemias, lymphomas, and myeloproliferative diseases.
  • Focuses on diagnostic tools including biomarkers, liquid biopsies, and methods for tracking disease and treatment response.
  • Explores intersections with immunology, oncology, cardiovascular medicine, infectious diseases, histopathology, and regenerative therapies including stem cell-based approaches.
  • Advances transfusion medicine including innovations in blood collection, storage, compatibility testing, and strategies to optimize safety and efficacy in clinical practice.
  • Develops blood products and plasma-derived therapies, focusing on novel manufacturing techniques, pathogen reduction technologies, and therapeutic applications for rare and common conditions.
  • Supports population-level research, including epidemiology, disease burden, and outcomes across diverse clinical settings.
  • Advances health equity in blood or plasma-related conditions, focusing on disparities in access, diagnosis, treatment, and long-term care.

Blood & Plasma is committed to publishing impactful, sound science that advances the field of blood and plasma and informs clinical and translational progress across disciplines. Authors are encouraged to clearly outline the clinical relevance or translational impact of their work.
