Dr. Shahul Ameen MD is the Editor-in-Chief of the Indian Journal of Psychological Medicine since 2017. He passed MBBS from Government Medical College, Kozhikode, Kerala, India, and MD (Psychiatry) from Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi, India. Currently, he is the Consultant Psychiatrist at St. Thomas Hospital, Changanacherry, Kerala.

He was the Editor of Kerala Journal of Psychiatry from 2014 till 2018. He was an Editor of the book A Primer of Research, Publication and Presentation, published by Indian Psychiatric Society and JayPee Brothers. He was a Guest editor of the Indian Journal of Psychiatry’s supplement on Mental Healthcare Act 2017. He has 14 publications in PubMed-listed journals and is an Assistant Editor of the Indian Journal of Private Psychiatry.

He was awarded the Certificate of Excellence for Best Case Presentation in the Annual National Conference of Indian Association of Private Psychiatry in 2013. In 2013, he was elected for the Early Career Psychiatrist Program of the Asian Federation of Psychiatric Societies, held in Colombo. In 2015, he was recommended by the Indian Psychiatric Society to attend the Young Health Professionals Tract at the International Congress of the World Psychiatric Association held in Bucharest, Romania.

He is an active science writer on mental health topics in the Malayalam language and has been a columnist in Mathrubhumi Arogyamasika and Mangalam Weekly. He was a Co-chairperson of the Publication subcommittee of the Indian Psychiatric Society and has also conducted many workshops on academic writing and publishing across India.
