CDR Chris Cornelissen, MC, USN Naval Medical Center San Diego, San Diego, CA, USA
Dr. Cornelissen currently serves as Division Head for Cardiothoracic Anesthesia at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD). An active member of the anesthesia faculty, he also serves as an educator and mentor for anesthesiology residents. He regularly provides academic lectures in perioperative transesophageal echocardiography for the departments of anesthesiology and cardiology. He has published in the areas of thromboelastography/coagulopathy, perioperative echocardiography and cardiothoracic anesthesia. In 2009, Dr. Cornelissen assumed the role of Director, Medical and Surgical Simulation Center at Naval Medical Center San Diego. In that role, he led multidisciplinary teams in creating and resourcing healthcare simulation programs for graduate medical education, nursing education, hospital corpsman training and staff clinical skills sustainment. He is a course creator and site lead for the Naval Postgraduate School/Uniformed Services University Healthcare Modeling and Simulation Certificate Program. In July 2013, he will assume duties as the Special Assistant for Quality Management at NMCSD, leading quality management, patient safety, continuous improvement programs, and medical staff services. Dr. Cornelissen completed a fellowship in cardiac anesthesia at Stanford University Medical Center and is board-certified in anesthesiology. He is a Diplomate in Perioperative Echocardiography by the National Board of Echocardiography. He is a graduate of the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. Most recently, he is a recipient of a professional certificate from the University of California, San Diego Health Sciences Leadership Academy in 2013. He is an Assistant Profession of Anesthesiology at the F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.
