Dr. Cronin earned his MD in 2009 from the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California. After graduating from the Keck School of Medicine with the Highest Distinction he completed his transitional year at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego before his Anesthesia Residency at the University of California San Diego (UCSD). Dr. Cronin remained at the University of California San Diego for a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Anesthesia prior to taking a faculty position.As an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Cardiothoracic Division at UCSD, Dr. Cronin serves as the VA Chief of Cardiac Anesthesia and UCSD Cardiac Anesthesia Fellowship site director at the VA San Diego. Through these positions Dr. Cronin has educated numerous medical students, residents and fellows in cardiothoracic anesthesia as well as perioperative echocardiography. On account of his interest and involvement in resident education at UCSD and the VA, Dr. Cronin was named the Teacher of the Year in 2017. His research interests include pulmonary artery catheter placement, right heart function, and cardiac implanted electrical devices. These interests have resulted in numerous book chapters and a wide range of publications.
