SAGE Publishing welcomes Innovations: Technology and Techniques in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery

December 5, 2018

SAGE Publishing announces that it will begin publishing Innovations: Technology and Techniques in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, the official journal of the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery (ISMICS).

Launched by ISMICS as part of a strategic effort to shape the global direction of cardiac surgery, Innovations was the first journal to disseminate information about technological advances leading to less invasive treatment of cardiothoracic and vascular disease. Published six times a year, the journal delivers research, reviews, manuscripts, case reports, and editorials from biomedical engineers and other experts, as well as newly presented research papers from annually held ISMICS meetings.

Editor Niv Ad, MD, says, “Innovations offers a platform for Cardiothoracic and Vascular surgeons, researchers, and other practitioners to access and contribute to the latest advances in the field of cardiothoracic and vascular surgery. We look forward to continuing our mission of furthering less invasive treatment and delivering peer reviewed research to the medical community under SAGE’s publishing direction.”

The International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery was formed to bring together cardiothoracic surgeons concerned with patient outcomes, techniques, and progressive development of less invasive forms of heart and lung surgery. Formed on May 31, 1997 by the participants of the World Congress of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery at the Palais Des Congres, Paris France, ISMICS immediately took a leadership role in shaping the direction of innovative and less invasive cardiac, cardiovascular and thoracic surgery on a global basis. The founding membership included representatives from all continents, and today ISMICS has a varied membership from around the world. The first President chosen by the meeting participants at the World Congress was Robert W. Emery, M.D. of the Minneapolis Heart Institute. Since then, ISMICS become the leader in minimally invasive and innovative techniques in cardiothoracic surgery, and alternates its Annual Meeting between North America and Europe. The Society also holds midyear Workshops in different parts of the world, where ISMICS leadership partner with local organizers and congresses to bring the latest innovations and treatments to cardiothoracic surgeons who might not otherwise have the opportunity to travel to the Society’s Annual Meeting.
