SAGE Publishing partners with the British Medical Acupuncture Society to publish Acupuncture in Medicine

October 16, 2018

SAGE Publishing is to partner with British Medical Acupuncture Society (BMAS) to publish Acupuncture in Medicine (AIM), a journal exploring scientific and clinical acupuncture, from January 2019.

AIM focuses on scientific acupuncture research. The journal’s policy is to take the Western medical approach by using current knowledge of neurophysiology, anatomy and pathology to interpret the clinical effects of acupuncture. The journal accepts original research submissions on all aspects of acupuncture, but insists that they are described with a modern scientific rationale.

The Editor of AIM, David Carr remarked:

“Acupuncture is often viewed somewhat controversially. AIM seeks to address this stigma with its policy that all research is presented and interpreted in strictly neurophysiological terms using only evidence-based frameworks, in order to critically evaluate its applications and integration within healthcare. SAGE Publishing shares our belief in the vital importance of evidence-based medicine and methodologically sound science and we look forward to working together to further build out this core arena of research.”

Mike Cummings, BMAS Medical Director, further commented:

“As a leading acupuncture journal, AIM serves an important role in the field. Partnering with SAGE will allow the journal to be accessed by a global audience of interested parties that can contribute to, and learn from, the research presented in the journal. We look forward to joining SAGE and being a part of their influential STM portfolio.”

Tessa Picknett, SAGE’s Vice President, Global STM Journals, said of the partnership:

“SAGE has developed an extensive and leading medical portfolio, marking it as one of the top five medical publishers in the world. We are excited to add AIM, the leading journal on Western medical acupuncture, into our growing portfolio. AIM provides an international forum for doctors and health-care professionals in the field of acupuncture and we look forward to working with the editorial team to support the evidence-based approach and promote debate in the field.”
