Excellent text that provides a fairly indepth exploration of physchological therapies, and their use in modern multi disciplinary mental health practice.

A solid readable text breaking down key features of some key approaches to therapy. Chapter activities and worksheets are engaging and provide useful pedagogical tools for lecturers as well as being accessible to learners studying at level 3 and Foundation Degree levels.

A useful text which is useful to dip in and out of as required for reference purposes. The text has a practical focus and explores various therapeutic methods. Great for students looking for an overview.
Too brief to cover much detail, of course, this book is helpful partly in that it puts different modalities alongside one another. Given the divisions between therapists of one flavour or another, this is a useful step, although one is always left wishing a greater range of modalities could have been covered (inevitably).

I have recommended this as a supplemental reading book for the current NCHP students on stage 2 of the diploma course. It covers some of the course material very well, but other sections are not directly relevant, or outside of the course altogether. The writing style was really nice and clear and it is good at maintaining focus on the practical aspect of doing therapy.
I think this is an excellent introductory text. I'm intending to use it in the context of an addictive behaviour module. I get tired of students talking about counselling in a very unspecific fashion to will be recommending this book so they can tell me what kind of counselling approach they have in mind.
