Corwin named exclusive provider of Visible Learningplus seminars in Australia
New Corwin Australia office to open in Melbourne
Los Angeles and Melbourne — Corwin today announces that it now holds exclusive rights to provide Visible Learningplus professional development to K-12 educators across Australia.
The Visible Learningplus model of school change, developed by New Zealand-based Cognition Education, draws on the world-renowned research of Professor John Hattie of the University of Melbourne, and focuses on practices that make the most impact on student achievement. The agreement enables Corwin, a SAGE company with headquarters in Thousand Oaks, California, to bring its successful track record of delivering impactful professional learning to Australian educators.
To support implementation of Visible Learningplus, Corwin has opened an office in Melbourne with Brad Rosairo as managing director and Helen Butler as director of professional learning. The new office expands the Asia-Pacific presence of parent company SAGE, which has an office in Singapore.
“Visible Learningplus is arguably the most powerful school change model in the world. It not only gives educators the evidence base to prove that what they are doing is effective, it also gives them the evidence gathering and analysis techniques they need to create an ongoing understanding of their impact on student learning and achievement,” said Mike Soules, president of Corwin. “To be entrusted with delivering the work of Professor Hattie in Australia is an immense honor.”
“Cognition is delighted to partner with Corwin in Australia. This partnership builds on the work that Corwin has already undertaken across North America where Visible Learning events and in-depth implementation are already having a great impact. Corwin Australia is committed to building Visible Learningplus in Australia and working with schools, school regions, states and territories to build the capacity of all educators to see learning through the eyes of the students and to build students to be their own teachers,” said Deb Masters, director of Visible Learningplus for Cognition Education.
Corwin will begin selecting and certifying experienced Australian educators and consultants to deliver Visible Learningplus professional development across the country. Any ongoing Visible Learningplus program implementations begun under the previous providers, Macmillan Professional Learning or Cognition Education, will continue with Corwin.
“Our immediate goals are to hire an all-star team and provide great service to schools and systems currently doing Visible Learningplus professional development,” said Rosairo. “The ultimate goal is to raise the standard of education in Australia and give educators the tools and skills to achieve better outcomes for all our students.”
Corwin previously won the agreement to be the exclusive provider of Visible Learningplus in North America in July 2013.
