Doing Your Qualitative Psychology Project
- Cath Sullivan - University of Central Lancashire, UK
- Stephen Gibson - Heriot Watt University, UK
- Sarah C.E. Riley - Massey University - New Zealand
This book is for students who are about to embark on a qualitative research project as part of their psychology degree. While there are a number of books on qualitative psychological research, this book is unique as it leads you step-by-step through the process of doing your project and writing your dissertation. The focus throughout is on how to make your project excellent!
The book focuses on the steps involved in completing a qualitative dissertation and on the decisions that you'll need to make as you go along. The book will lead you through:
- Designing your project
- Ethical considerations
- Collecting your data
- Analyzing your data
- Writing your dissertation
In addition, the book will help you with time management working with your supervisor, as well as provide guidance on how you can use your projects as the basis for publication or further study.
A very useful text. Clear and comprehensive. This is much needed. There are many other texts on research methods, but few on conducting and writing up student projects using qualitative methods.
A good introductory text, especially for those new to qualitative methods. The text and arrangement of material is very clear. The broad-based approach helps students to decide on the most appropriate approach to their research question. Overall, a really nice book!
I felt that whilst the content is helpful, it perhaps does not meet our postgrad students' needs as well as a number of other more comprehensive - and so often longer - texts.
However, I do agree that it is likely to be a good source of guidance early on in the qualitiative journey.
Useful for all students, but particularly those using qualitative research methods for their final year dissertation
Clearly structured and compactly written. Perfect also for novices.
This is a clearly written well structured book that can guide students on the research journey. Specifically I found the chapters that develop critical thinking in the student with regard to their own work and the work of others very helpful as a starting point.
This is a very good book that can be used by undergraduates and postgraduates. It's written in an accessible and clear way. The chapter on evaluating qualitative research is particularly useful.
Very useful book and I recommend it highly to our students. I cannot insist on adoption as we have an e-book deal with another publisher which provides all our students with texts, one of which is on qualitative methods in psychology.
This book covers all the essential detail and is presented very well with the range of boxed material. It is also very clearly written and would cater for a range of levels.
A very useful text for undergraduates and MSc students which leads the student through each stage of the process of completing a qualitative research project
Extremely useful for my dissertation students, though this isn't attached to a particular class. I do recommend it, however, to any students who are doing a dissertation using qualitative methods.
