Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
Foundations for Practice

Third Edition
  • Frank Wills - University of Wales College, Newport, University of South Wales, UK
  • Diana Sanders - Counselling Psychologist and BABCP Accredited Cognitive Psychotherapist in Independent Practice, Oxford

November 2012 | 352 pages | SAGE Publications Ltd

In their established introduction to contemporary CBT theory and practice, Diana Sanders and Frank Wills show how therapeutic change takes place across a network of cognitive, emotional and behavioral functioning. They explain the central concepts of CBT and illustrate - with numerous case examples - how these can effectively be put into practice at each stage of the therapeutic process. The revised book now includes:

  • Recent developments in CBT, i.e., new settings and applications including guided self-help, computerized CBT, IAPT & stepped care
  • Two brand new chapters on mindfulness and increasing access to CBT
  • Extra case studies, chapter previews, exercises and further reading, plus an appendix of further resources
  • Coverage of a wider range of client issues

This continues to be the ideal companion for those working - or training to work - in the psychological therapies and mental health.

A useful extra resource for my students' needs as they study ways of improving their supervisory practices. Surely a great resource for those studying CBT in more detail.

I would recommend this introduction to CBT to any trainee, but especially those preparing to work in IAPT services. The chapters on the therapeutic realtionship and how to work with emotion in CBT are particularly helpful and well written, while avoiding becoming too technical or fuzzy! The use of case studies to illustrate how theoretical aspects of therapy translate into practice is particularly helpful.

An excellent practical resource that links theory and practice of cbt throughout by the use of case studies. The inclusion of a chapter on mindfulness is a welcome addition.

This is proving to be an essential book for early learners and practitioners of CBT. It is most useful as a lecturing aid and after ordering it is now in our library with students referring to it regularly.

A good book to aid the understanding of cognitive behaviour. Although it is specific to one area it is certainly worth considering as a purchase.
