Maria Malatesta University of Bologna, Italy

Born in 1949. Degree in Philosophy in 1972, University of Bologna. Full Professor of Contemporary History at the Faculty of Literature and Philosophy (University of Bologna) since 2001. She teaches Contemporary History (BA degree of Geographical Sciences), History of social institutions (Master in History of Europe), History of professions (Master in Accounting, Faculty of Economy). She was professor of the course of Contemporary History in 1996 at the Université Denis Diderot-Paris 7; Visiting Professor in November 2000 at the École Normale Superiéure in Paris ; Visiting Professor at the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme in October 2002; visiting professor in 2008 at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris. She collaborates as researcher in both History and Sociology at the École des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, and at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS). From the First of January 2007 she is coordinator of the Ph.D. on European History and Geography at the Dept. of History, University of Bologna. She was member of the Commission on Culture of the Consiglio Nazionale Forense at the Ministero di Grazia e giustizia (Law National Council) from 1999 to 2007; she is membrer of the Scientific Committee at the Historical Institute of the city of Bologna. In 2007 she was asked to become a member of the Council of Social Sciences (Rome). She is member of the Scientific Committee of the following academic journal: «Le Mouvement social» (Paris), «Actes de la recherche en sciences sociales» (Paris), «Società e storia» (Milan) “Comparative sociology”. From 1992 to 1995 she was local coordinator of a National research on professions in Italy. In the years 1998-2000 she was local coordinator of a National research on the topic «The collapse of the State». She is national coordinator of the Prin research 2007 on “The professions: from politics projet to everyday politics” She is coordinator of the strategic projet financed by the University of Bologna "Atlante storico delle professioni". In 2001 she organized the international conference about «Corpi e professioni tra passato e futuro» (Professional bodies between past and future) at the Dept. of History, Bologna. She won the prize SISSCO 2007 for the Book Professionisti e gentiluomini. Storia delle professioni nell'Europa contemporanea (Turin, Einaudi 2006).
