African Feminist Praxis
Cartographies of Liberatory Worldmaking

January 2025 | 120 pages | SAGE Publications Ltd

Written by African feminist, strategist and mobiliser, Jessica Horn, this book explores the flesh and breadth of African feminist politics. Focussing on the key principles of kinship, solidarity, courage, pleasure, care and memory, this book offers a look at the foundational concepts within African feminist practice through which it continues to be (re)imagined.

Taking a citation approach the book explores the so-called “grey-literature” of blog posts, poetry, newsletters and more recently Tweets and Facebook posts which African feminisms are relegated to. Bringing this content centre stage, Jessica offers a narrative of the practice of African feminism. Looking back over the past thirty years the book focusses on a range of issues including sexism, militarism, homophobia and transphobia, global economic inequality and religious fundamentalism, presenting the power that African feminism has to transform patriarchal power relations.
