James A Glynn

James A. Glynn is Professor of Sociology for the State Center Community College District. He has taught sociology for more than 30 years, and he currently holds classes at the Madera Center in California's great Central Valley. A contributing author to the first edition of California's Social Problems (1997), he also collaborated with Charles F. Hohm and Elbert W. Stewart in writing Global Social Problems (1996). Previously, he and Stewart produced four editions of Introduction to Sociology (1971, 1975, 1979, and 1984), a text that was translated into Spanish and Portuguese editions. In 1990, he worked with Professor Hohm and others in organizing the California Sociological Association; he served as its third president and has been executive director for the past 10 years. From 1996 to 2000, he served on the Editorial Board for Sociological Perspectives, the official journal of the Pacific Sociological Association, an organization from which he received the Distinguished Contributions to Teaching Award in 1997. For the past 2 years, he has written a weekly column for the Madera Tribune in which he frequently addresses issues of sociological importance. Now involved in local community affairs, he serves on the Board of Directors of the Madera County Arts Council and the Citizens Commission to Plan and Implement the Government Center.
