This book provides a good overview of the impacts of child sexual abuse on family systems - victims, offenders, non-offending caregivers, and non-abused siblings - and interventions available to address this issue on an individual and family/group level. For a graduate mini-course, I felt this book touched upon most, if not all, of the salient issues surrounding SA, disclosure, response, intervention, and prevention across client groups.
A great book with a really good insight
This book provides detailed exploration of current research and issues. Relevant case studies included to aid real life application and chapter review sections are a valuable addition. Especially useful is the chapter on theory.
A thorough but sensitive exploration of history, treatment, progress, and growing recognition of long and short term impact.
This text provided an interesting context-setting chapter on views towards the sexual abuse of children which I felt was valuable for my students. In addition, I have used the text to illustrate to students the factors which may precede the onset of abusive behaviours in young people.
This book gives the student a clear ‘non sugar coated’ understanding to the issues of child and adolescent sexual abuse. Crosson-Tower provides a deeper richer text that goes beyond what has been published before. This comprehensive text can only be beneficial to all students and practitioners in the field of child safeguarding and protection.
The course creation has been put on hold. There are plans in the works to start the course and use this book. However, it is not definitive at this point.
The author of this book has produced a book that provides a history to child and adolescent sexual abuse that evokes thought and insight to the complexities of sexual abuse. The different types of assessment and treatments to assist the reader on past and current innovations to working within the different areas that face social workers in working with service users affected by sexual abuse.
