Excellent, essential reading for both students and lecturers on any counselling and psychotherapy course. Excellent case histories illustrating the use of each skill along with a comprehensive definition of the skills.
We have found the book to be easily understandable for our first year students, but still useful for our honors level classes. Faculty members have also found it to be beneficial in the conceptualization of new modules and in the updating of old ones.

I like this authors systematic style of presenting counselling technique. Students find it easy to understand and follow in terms of developingcounselling and communication skills wtih their clients. I have included on core reading lists and recommended to the library.
This is a really good book to find out all about counselling. The chapters follow a logical progression and the topics are introduced in an accessible way. I liked the activities and examples and comprehensive glossary. The annotated bibliography and reference list are extremely useful for choosing further reading. The only downside is that the chapter outcomes and headers are in a very pale text.
