Supporting Development from Birth to Nineteen
- Nadia Edmond - University of Brighton, UK
- Mark Price - University of Brighton, UK
Reflection points, workplace activities and professional development planners are all included, and these challenge readers and students to critically engage with theory in their own practice. The book focuses on the key areas of knowledge that all those working with children are required to study, and places them firmly in the context of working together to support children and young people.
Generally seems to 'hit the spot' with education support staff - especially for experienced practitioners now reflecting on their work roles through undergraduate study. This book not only sets out to use relevant theory as a means of better understanding practice - as with how children learn, for example, but also demystifies issues around policy, quality assurance and professionalism in which all education practitioners are enmeshed... Overall, this is an accessible and relevant springboard into informed professional refection.
Excellent text which explores the complexity of integrated working, what it is and what it should look like, ideal for students who have little experience
Students find this book easy to read and it is relevent to their area of study. I have used it to provide information for sessions - a Good book
Has proved to be a very useful text for the Foundation Degree students, providing a concise and clear introduction to the subject
Core text for undergraduates reflecting key themes in workwith children and young people including transitions, working with families and professionalism in a diverse workforce. The holistic view encompassing 0-19 is ideal for our course programme on Childhood and Youth.
This is a very accessible, comprehensive book for undergraduate Social Care/ Social Work students.
This will be one of the books that are required for students in the next semester for family and child welfare course. This book give examples on how theory, approaches and models in social work is applied in the reality. However, students also need to understand the contextual differences between Malaysia and other parts of the world.
Excellent book; strongly recommended for year of our Early Years Foundation degree. On the recommended reading list for next semester. Also recommended for other courses offered here at the college.
Accessible text introducing students to concept and models of integrated practice
