Pirkko Markula is a professor of sociocultural studies of physical activity in the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation at the University of Alberta, Canada. She is a poststructuralist feminist researcher interested in new materialist approaches to dance, exercise, and sport. Drawing mainly from Gilles Deleuze and Michel Foucault’s work, she has investigated how to create more ethical movement practices through folding the existing knowledge but not being dominated by it.
