Mukul Sharma Assistant Professor, AIIMS Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh

Mukul Sharma is a journalist, a writer, a trade unionist and a developmental professional. He writes on environment, development, labour and media issues in English and Hindi and has published extensively, including the books Landscapes and Lives: Environmental Dispatches on Rural India, Defi ning Dignity and No Borders: Journeys of an Indian Journalist. He is the editor of Improving People’s Lives: Lessons in Empowerment from Asia. He has recently co-authored a book, Contested Coastlines: Fisherfolk, Nations and Borders in South Asia (2008). He has received 12 national/international awards for his writings, the most recent being the Award for Excellence in Asian Print Media Writing by Singapore Press Holdings and Asian Media Information and Communication Centre, Singapore. He is closely associated with the World Social Forum and the World Dignity Forum. Mukul Sharma was the Director of Heinrich Boll Foundation, India. He was then the Asia Campaigns & Advocacy Coordinator at ActionAid International. He was the Director of Amnesty International in India. Presently based in Bangkok, Thailand, Mukul Sharma is the Executive Director of AIDS Society of Asia and the Pacifi c (ASAP) and is also associated with the Faculty of Public Health, Mahidol University.
