Lucy Popova, PhD Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA, USA

Lucy Popova is an Assistant Professor of Health Promotion and Behavior and a Second Century Initiative (2CI) scholar in the School of Public Health at Georgia State University. Her research focuses on reducing tobacco-related morbidity and mortality by understanding the role of perceptions, beliefs, and emotions in health behavior. The recipient of a NIH Career Development Award, her current work focuses on studying consumers’ perceptions of risks of various tobacco products, susceptibility to using new tobacco products, and emotional and cognitive responses to emerging tobacco marketing and educational messages. She earned her PhD in Communication from the University of California, Santa Barbara and was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Popova received HE&B’s 2013 Lawrence W. Green Paper of the Year Award for her 2012 paper, “The Extended Parallel Process Model: Illuminating the Gaps in Research.”
